"Mühlauersäge" A wood experience realm

Discover the journey from seed to finished product.
An ideal year-round experience where information about planting, care, harvesting, and processing of wood is vividly presented at various stations:

  • Various games and activities

  • Wooden toys

  • Tasting of local products

  • Prize draws and much more

Wood grows in the cleanest factory there is – the forest. Around 13,800 hectares, or 17% of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Salzburg, are covered by forest. This makes the forest a vital part of our local flora and fauna. By the way, the “Wood Experience World – Mühlauersäge” is a great bad-weather alternative and is also perfect for educational visits by schools.

Museum Kaprun

Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the region – from the earliest traces of settlement to the 19th century, when high society spent their summer holidays here. The construction of the power plant and the development of the glacier ski area are also central topics.

The museum, housed in the historic Steinerbauer farmhouse on the Kirchbichl in Kaprun, focuses particularly on prehistory and tourism. It also highlights the impressive creation of the high mountain reservoirs. Special exhibitions complete the experience.

Felbertower Museum Mittersill

Felbertower Museum Mittersill

On the ground floor of the Felberturm, you'll find an exhibition dedicated to pack trade ("Saumhandel"). The various trade routes over the Tauern mountains and the fateful stories of the pack traders (Säumer) are brought to life using modern museum education concepts. Visitors can view the basic equipment of the traders as well as a special weather station that holds a few surprises.

On the first floor, the exhibition explores the history and development of Mittersill, from its time as a Bannmarkt (a medieval market with special rights) to its elevation to city status. Particular emphasis is placed on jurisdiction and the relationship between the people and the authorities. The unique witch trial of Mittersill is presented through historical research and an engaging film.

In the adjacent farmhouse, the everyday life of the local farmers – who were often also pack traders – is depicted. The former school building from 1609 now serves as an educational and play workshop for visitors of all ages.
