"Mühlauersäge" A wood experience realm

Discover the development from seed to finished product. An ideal year-round offering where information on planting, care, harvesting, and processing of wood is clearly presented at various stations:

  • Various games and activities

  • Wooden toys

  • Tasting of local products

  • A raffle and much more

Wood grows in the cleanest factory, the forest. About 13.800 hectares, or 17%, of the Hohe Tauern National Park in Salzburg are covered by forests. Therefore, the forest is a very important part of our local wildlife and plant life. By the way, the "Mühlauersäge" Wood Experience World is an ideal bad weather alternative and also perfect for educational purposes for schools.

Felbertower Museum Mittersill

At the Felberturm Museum, visitors gain an extensive understanding of the "pack animal trade." Various pack animal routes over the Tauern and the fateful stories of the carriers are brought to life and presented according to modern museum educational principles. In addition to the basic equipment of the carriers, a special weather station is displayed, offering a surprise for visitors. The adjacent farmhouse illustrates the everyday life of farmers, many of whom were also pack carriers. The former school building from 1609 serves as an educational space and workshop.

Additionally, the Felberturm Museum offers an insightful explanation of Mittersill’s development, from its time as a market town to its elevation to city status. A special focus is placed on the judiciary and the relationship between the population and the authorities of the time. The unique witch trial in Mittersill is both historically analyzed and portrayed in a film.

Celtic Village Stoanabichl Uttendorf

During the relocation of the village water pipeline in Uttendorf, approximately 500 meters west of the town center, a burial ground from the Hallstatt period (around 750 BC) was discovered. Between 1975 and 1990, regular excavations were carried out, uncovering 467 cremation graves. Numerous grave goods—such as a necklace made of amber and glass beads, garment clasps, bracelets, loom weights, ceramic and bronze vessels, as well as iron knives, iron and bronze axes, and spearheads—provided insights into the lifestyle of Uttendorf’s prehistoric inhabitants. These finds also revealed transalpine trade connections to regions like Germany, northern Italy, and Slovenia.
